FIC-GTA001 Linux Phone With Built-In GPS

Linux GPS Phone
FIC, a Taiwan-based motherboard manufacturer, has decided to expand its business market and will soon release its own smartphone called the FIC-GTA001. Boasts built-in GPS functionalities and integrated iPod-quality (or so it claimed) MP3 player, this GSM cell phone offers a 2.8-inch touch screen display with a resolution of 480×640 and multi-touch gesture recognition, USB connectivity, and emergy paging button.

Since FIC-GTA001 cell phone will be using Linux as its operating system, most software on the phone will have the spirit of the fat penguin (read: open source) and you can expect the growing list of software from the community. One of the planned software is the capability to capture hand gestures for controlling the device. This would allow you to for example zoom into a map using a pinching motion and pan by twisting fingers around as if holding a compass while using the GPS navigation software on board.

Regarding technical specs, FIC FIC-GTA001 smartphone is powered by Samsungg S3C2410 ARM9-based processor and equipped with a 128MB of RAM and 64MB of flash memory. No words on pricing and availability though.[ Via ]
